Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

April 25, 2013

Although officially closed due to funding issues, the Windsor State Park, including Windsor Jambs, is accessible – if one can find it. All signage has been removed. We were lost in the car for a bit, but finding it was finding real treasure. The hike started on low ground, mossy, wet, and having a primeval feeling to it. Quiet and wonderful. The hike upward was through abandoned forest with a lot of windfall and also a lot of wonder. Trillium just emerging, goldthread, and lots and lots of trout lily (not yet in bloom). I heard a WInter Wren for the first time! The sight at the start of the Upper Jambs is breathtaking. The long hike downward to Lower Jambs is fantastic. Once down, the trail again goes through flat land with lots of little streamlets and mossy underfooting. Our hearty group is now 9, and we enjoyed lunch at the Creamery in Cummington after the hike. It was pretty much an all day outing. A photo taken near the top of the Upper Jambs follows. Thinking of you, Penny
