Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

May 30, 2013

11 of us left early for a full day’s hike at High Ledges in Shelburne with the hopes of seeing yellow lady slippers. We had another great day, saw too many things to list, the woods were pristine after last night’s thunderstorms, the little streams were running full tilt, the birds taunting us to identify them by their wonderful songs. The yellow lady slippers were found, but not nearly as plentiful as they once were. In fact, we saw only 3. The friendship along the trail, as ever, was totally delightful. Coming back to our cars we took a short drive to WheelView Farm where we had been invited to have a picnic. The farm has been in the same family since the 1890’s and has made the switch from dairy to grass fed beef (Belted Galway cattle) on their 360 acre farm. It was lush with health. I’m presently reading “Omnivore’s Dilemma” so being on a grass fed beef farm was amazing. After the picnic we made a steep climb up a back pasture for even better views than we had at the picnic table. I was told I even saw a mountain Connecticut! Said hi to Mel and Ginni! We all bought some grass fed beef and I’m eager to cook it. Untiil next weeks’s report, Wish you were here Penny
