Est. 2013

July 25, 2013 – Taylor Place

We started out at the Taylor place, a 1775 restored summer home here in Conway. It so happens Joe Zadroga is care taker and Tony Borton (center photo) a long time family friend. We got a lot of narrative from both Tony and Joe. The place belongs to Charlie Taylor, one time VP of the Boston Globe, and his wife and 4 children (up and down of 50 years old), all very successful.The house is little used by them anymore. A studio, small house and lovely screened in outbuilding were also to be admired. Charlie was also once a provost at Yale Univ but now, slowed by Alzheimers, lives in Paris with a caretaker/partner. One of his sons is now negotiating to re buy the Boston Globe from the New York Times which had acquired the Globe rather recently. We were welcomed to go through the house,and I’m sure you can imagine, it was a wonderful experience. Our hike to “Joe Herrick’s Gulf”, on the Taylor property and also on a part of Tony’s property, was simply wonderful. The “Gulf” is an unexpected great chasm. Precipitous, dangerous, and amazing in it’s uniqueness. Impossible to convey with a photo! We descended along the famous (to folks in Conway!) Johnny Bean Brook and saw the small cellar hole of Johnny and Maggie Bean’s 1700 dwelling. Lunch was at Tony’s house. I made a big blueberry pie from blueberries I picked yesterday. It was pretty good! Tony’s horses visited us near the picnic table from time to time. The dogs, Sukee and Baxter, had another great day of hiking with the group! Penny {CAPTION}
