Est. 2013

August 4, 2013 – Sue Bridge’s home

The photos are shared by Madge Howlett as I forgot my camera this week. We started out at Sue Bridge’s home for a 2 hour talk and walk around her home and land. 8 acres dedicated to permaculture (“food forest”). Her house off grid, and has all amenities that we all have – except we probably don’t have composting toilets yet. You’ll see us sitting beneath a hardy kiwi vine arbor hearing about the controversial invasive kiwi versus it’s nutritional values. Then have a look at the interior of her wonderful home. 780 square feet that feels twice that size at least. Fantastic design with an orientation exactly due south.Makes one want to move right in. And how about the views from her glassed in room?
After we learned a lot about permaculture from Sue’s charming and knowledgeable presentation she hiked with us up the mountain that actually leads to the Boyden and Antes farms. Anna, please show Jason the tree photo. It’s inscribed “I love Beth” in a heart and “JA” to its right. I think the Antes brothers have been there with their pen knives! We came out on a fabulous huge clearing with incredible mountain views. One of the Boydens was out brush hogging, keeping that acreage open. The hike ended back at Sue Bridge’s where we got in our cars and drove to my house for a picnic behind the barn. It was very very enjoyable. I made our favorite rice/tuna salad. Other pot luck dishes were a green salad, a corn and black bean salad, grainy organic bread from Williamsburg store, iced tea or ice water, watermelon and a blueberry cake. Betty was so friendly and lovely and well behaved at the picnic. Until next week (back into the Conway State forest) , Penny

this one’s for you!
