It seems lately as if every hike is the best ever, but today’s sure is in that category. We went to Notch View, in Windsor, MA, a Trustees of Reservations property that’s a cross-country ski mecca but also has incredible trails for snowshoers. 1.The dogs got really excited when we started to arrive and get our gear on in the parking lot. 2,3. As usual, Gwen B. led us out. The conditions were heavenly ! What a glorious day for tromping in the woods. 4,5 We spotted Otter slides going under a small footbridge and later saw more Otter tracks that went right across our hiking trail. Oh! That sort of thing gets us very happy! 6. Three hours later, we were ready for lunch at the Creamery in Cummington. Black bean and vegetable soup seemed to be the choice of the day. Gwen D. gave everyone a molded seed star she had made for feeding the birds and Tony gave everyone lots of photos from our (49?) hikes and the book, “A Sand County Almanac” by Aldo Leopold (1949!). All in all it was once again a day of robust friendship and great adventure. I wish you could be with me. It’s wonderful. (We missed you a lot, Joe!) Love to all, Penny
