Conway at Tony’s Property

Not too cold, 20 degrees and sun, for a hike here in Conway at Tony’s property. We were out for 3 hours, perfect snowshoe conditions, good climbs and fun descents, endless trail possibilities,frozen streams with ice formations, glacial erratics, and eager dogs. Tony led, and said that he had quite an educational event planned, that he was going into his professorial mode, and that there would be a test at hike’s end. (But we got away with eating hot soup, panini sandwiches, salad, hearty bread and a lovely hikers cake while keeping Tony’s mind off the “quiz. It was a lot of fun!) Photos: 1,Gwen and Tony consult the topographical map of Conway that he’s hung on the wall, It was very interesting for all of us. 2:Almost ready! 3: Sukee poses on top of a rock with while Tony, Gwen, Donna and Kit wait for her to resume the hike. Baxter comes back to the group to see what’s holding things up. 4. Lots of streams run through the property. The ice formations and roaring water underneath are powerful and beautiful. 5. The occasional “professorial” stops were great. Here we learn about possible reasons for the shedding bark from a hemlock…most likely caused by lightening. Good thing we escaped the quiz, because I can’t actually relate the cause of events associated with the lightening strike that caused it to happen. Even though I do think I was paying better attention than Sukee! Next week: Mt. Toby See you! Penny {CAPTION}
