5/15/14 – Bear Swamp

At last the day came for our return to Bear Swamp today to celebrate the Spring wildflowers. We hike Bear Swamp in every season, but in Spring it’s really spectacular. An overcast, misty day was the perfect backdrop for photos. There were lots of Painted Trillium in the highest places, the red Trillium (photo 5) more profuse lower down. Seeing a Red Eft/Red Spotted Newt was a really happy surprise and added a splash of red orange color to the scenery. There are so many Spring wildflowers, but I’ve had to limit email photos, so here’s a Big Leaf Toothwort photo for you. The Trail is such a gem and we had our usual good time out there today. Lunch at Elmer’s Store is always a great place after a morning of hiking. I had the Chili and it was especially good with well cooked onions and roasted red peppers. Thinking of you, Love, Penny
