Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

7/10/14 – Charlemont

Today we returned to my property in Charlemont. The weather was amazingly good for a climb, and a hike on pine needle covered trails, and a lunch with a view. It was with joy that we discovered the Veery nest (last seen with 4 blue eggs in it) now has 4 healthy Veery babies. A really quick photo and we were back on the trail up too our most favorite picnic place. About half way through our brown bag lunches a rather large herd of dairy cows arrived and the two groups (human and bovine) exchanged greetings. Tony and Sukee went out to test the mood of the herd, and Lissa soothed things by proclaiming to the cows that we were “all vegetarians and not only that, but some of us were even of the Hindu persuasion and worshiped cows”. The truth had been stretched, of course, but peace reigned on the hilltop and we all are now the best of friends. The hike back down was incredibly lovely with scenic side excursions off trail and kind words to me from everyone about Betty. I wish you had all been there. Next week we’ll be hiking in Conway with a last stop at the Conway Pond for a swim! Love, Penny {CAPTION}
