Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

12/18/14 – Mt. Warner, Sunderland MA

There is no challenge to hiking Mt. Warner so the day took on an air of nonsense, singing, and games. Unless! Speaking of challenges: try singing “12 Days of Christmas” remembering the order and objects of all those 12 days. We had to make up most of it, ending with “11 hikers hiking” and “12 dogs a running” and had a lot of laughs along the way to that finale crescendo. Once again, we arrived at the Summit of Mt. Warner where Tony raised our flag, claiming the rock as our own. He had raised a neckerchief on that same summit a few years back, but now we’ve made it official with Old Glory. Sticker Awards were presented to all who had successfully made it to the top! Dogs, too, but the stickers wouldn’t stick to them. Back down the trails, noticing lots of natural wonders big and very small. Orange Witches Brew fungi really stood out in the colorless woods, but we decided not to eat any today:) Sandwiches and a smattering of gifts at the Maple Sugar House ended our day. To be resumed with a New Year’s Day hike – maybe at Bullitt Reservation. Merry Christmas everybody, Love, Penny
