Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/26/15 – Pine Hill Road, Conway MA

Neither snow shoes nor spikes are usable in the present conditions, so we chose to walk Pine Hill Road which, if you’re a car, is “Closed for the Winter”. It’s fun to be walking side by side again, or even in groups, instead of single file snow shoe hiking seeing only one another’s backs.. The Archibald MacLeish house, owned by very very wealthy people, is now unoccupied. At best they arrive by helicopter for a week each summer. They have other houses around the globe. It’s sad to see this historic and once hospitable home sitting there joylessly. There’s not a lot to say about today’s hike. Sometimes mud, sometimes ice underfoot. Then along came John Goki with one of his 23 horses and we had a horse and camera chat as had a camera mounted on his riding helmet. Later on we saw them out in a snow covered field having quite a spirited romp. Today we officially celebrated our 100th hike together even though that happened quite a while ago. Franklin Land Trust conference room was our lunch place, take out pizza and local apple cider our lunch, birthday cake for me and Gwen, write ups of all of our hikes thanks to Tony, and a viewing of the film “River Webs”. It’s uniquely good, look it up. I hope you can find it. We hope for better weather, you do too, I bet! Love, Penny
