We saved this mid October date for our annual hike at Stump Sprouts because it’s way up in the mountains of Hawley and for the views and leaf color. Hiking on well groomed ski trails is just such a pleasure. Early on we found a lot of Rattle Snake Plaintain decorated with colorful fallen leaves. Closed trails didn’t apply to us today, but we’ll have to pay attention when we snow shoe here in winter. There was a Brontosaurus stomping by .. too bad I cut its head off in my photo! Wooden benches invited us to stop and enjoy a long view, then back on our way after checking the trail maps once gain. It was a perfectly awesome hiking day, ending at the “lodge” where we had our bag lunches outside with fabulous views and Elaine and Conrad’s homemade apple cider! Next week: “Green Swamp” – new to me and I’m excited about it. I hope there’s no quick sand:) Love. Penny
