A lone Johnny Jump was in bloom as we started out from the Bullitt Reservation trail head. This was a celebratory day of friendship, a nod to the Thanksgiving feasts we’d all be enjoying on Thursday. The streams were running full, and icicles were just beginning to form on tree branches that overhung them. Needle Ice was beginning to come up through the ground. A fine example of an “intrusion with differentiated erosion” reminded us that we have learned a bit about geology. Lynn found a suitable grape vine swing and John obliged with giving her push. Sukee and Annie played the “I’ve got the stick” game all day long. John, not only a professor of political science but also a professional actor, found a throne and gave an unintelligible speech from it. (But no one listened.) Not contented with the grapevine swing, Lynn found a grapevine Jungle Gym but was disappointed that she couldn’t hang upside down (like when we were kids). Tony showed off a piece of bridge that he had hauled into the woods on a recent trail work day. Jack in the Pulpit seeds added color (and hope!) to our day. Lunch at our favorite: Elmer’s Store. I had Borscht (great!) and a carrot/raisin/walnut whole wheat muffin. You should come up and go to Elmer’s with me.I’ll buy you a muffin.. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. We all have so much to be grateful for. Love, Penny
