Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/10/16 – Conway, MA Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary

Rain was in the forecast but it’s Thursday, so we hike. Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary here in Conway seemed like a “go to” place where maybe we could beat the rain. And we did! Just as we returned to our cars, and after a rather short 2 hour hike (with lots of lallygagging), the rain began. Conway Hills is a beautiful place, the trails are varied and well kept, the Lone Wolf Tree Trail presents hikers with a magnificent OLD maple “lone wolf” pasture tree, there are small streams, one large “pond” (not a vernal pool), chestnut oaks, shagbark hickory, a maple and dogwood that are forever wedded together and where we thought about doing pull ups,but easily gave up the idea. It was a laid back day, full of laughs, small discoveries, friendship, but only one dog.. Down to Wolfies eatery in South Deerfield for lunch where the service was delightfully slow, the lemon water was icy cold, the Wolfie Burgers were great, and conversation went from Maple galls and foliose lichen to Bernie Sanders.. Conway Hills might be a swell (optional !) activity for Camp for anyone who might want a nice walk in the woods. Love to all, Penny
