3/24/16 – Conway trails

Today the hikers celebrated Gwen (my hiker “little sister”) and my birthdays. Tony and Joe blazed a new long trail for us through the most beautiful Conway land, all privately owned – but owned by friends of Tony – so we were OK. Vasty, beautifully managed, varied terrain, lots of brooks and vernal pools, forest land. Our destination was to the remains of the Conway dam built in 1880 breached in 1940. Once a recreational lake where families spent Sunday afternoons having taken the trolley to get there. Tony gave us his professorial lectures along the way. It couldn’t have been more delightful. We saw our first Hepatica blooming (the little photo) and there was one fungus that smiled at Gwen and myself and wished us a Happy Birthday. We eventually ended up back a Tony’s house. Last photo is of one his favorite horseback riding trails on his own property. Lunch!!! Pot luck around Tony’s big round table. Tortellini sausage soup, sweet potato, pumpkin seed and cranberry bake, green salad, brown rice and vegetable salad, grain bread from Bread Euphoria and a blueberry pie made from the last of the blueberries that Lissa picked on last year’s blueberry picking hike. It could have not have been a better (birth)day, Love to all, Penny
