Heavy rain was predicted. We got a 9:45 start on the Beaver Pond Loop trail that surprised us with so much snow and ice. Only 5 of us ventured out today but we 5 had such a good hike together, moving faster than usual to beat the rain, but still stopping to explore interesting things beside the trails. The Hobble Bush Viburnum buds were ready to burst open, but the beaver pond looked dank and uninviting. As we turned onto the Bobcat trail the fog rose and a light rain began as huge glacial erratics came into view. Then – at last! – Snow Fleas! We’ve been searching for them for weeks, and here they were in abundance.. Snow fleas add amusement to any hike. 10 minutes after we got back to the cars the skies opened up and it’s been pelting heavy rain ever since. Lissa, Tony, and I went to the snack shack for cups of clam chowder, kale, sausage and white bean soup, 2 fish sandwiches, one lobster roll, a generous pitcher of water, and good conversation. Try to enjoy the April showers and the April snow and the April ice and the April wind ….. Love to all, Penny
