This 4 or more mile hike was so darn good! Spring is starting to show itself, and we were in high gear exploring it. At first the trails were along old, wonderful, stonewall lined roads, then into the woods we went. We were like kids when we spotted our first red trillium, and yellow violet of the year. Streams amd water EVERYWHERE. At last we come upon a HUGE old cellar hole on what must have been a “major” crossroad inthe 1700s and might hve been an inn/ tavern. Lucky me! I discovered an old stone lined well and we were so interested to look into – maybe 20’ deep with water at the bottom- it talk about it. Later I caught the gang on a bridge and they actually posed for a group ohoto. A butterfly (no one knew its name) landed on me, then on others, and we got really fond of it what with its torn wing. Lunch was on the rocks of the remains of a really big old mill, dam, and foundation of the mill house. It was pretty darn fabulous. A pack of discarded cigarettes with an earth friendly message – gave us pause. Hiker dog Annie, just back from her laid back winter months in Florida, was entirely beat at the end of the hike. It’s so exciting to watch life return to the earth. Lots of love, Penny
