We had a fine hike today in the glow of yesterday’s announcement of the defeat of the NED gas pipeline that all of us have been actively opposing. A moderately dry terrain with a loop trail at the end, around an old stone quarry, and beautiful clear brooks and pools scattered throughout. We saw a few Northern White Violets, which I don’t recall seeing before. The scent is perfectly sweet and delightful. Bag lunches once we reached the quarry and scrambled up some rocks above a quarry pool. Trailing arbutus (Mayflower) is an infrequent sight and the scent is almost out of this world lovely. At the end, I got to “walk the plank” over a lovely little stream that reminded me of when we were kids. Happiness here in Western Mass is having “No Pipeline”. We remain joyous and stunned by the unexpected announcement yesterday that Kinder Morgan and Tennessee Gas have ended their $5 billion environmentally devastating, and unneeded, project. Hoping you’re happy too, Love,Penny
