The 400 acre Williams property is in conservation restriction, and is a wonderful example of sound land stewardship on a gorgeous property. The terrain is utterly diverse: ponds, open fields, deep glacial ravines with huge glacial erratics, streams, pine covered trails, spring wildflowers, old stone walls marking old property boundaries, the remains of the colonial road that later was rerouted and became Route 116 heading West, beaver ponds, and no end of fabulous trees. Lots and lots of Ramps, Swamp Saxifrage, Tiarella, Dwarf Ginseng, Mitre Wort, and Gold Thread just to mention some of the plants we saw. There was a welcome spring fed watering spot for filling our water bottles. Rain – which was predicted – started near the end of the 3 hour hike and kept us moving along. We headed for Judy and Dudley’s screened in porch and, in the good company of their two labs (Commodore and Admiral) ate our bag lunches in the best of company and conversation. We’ve been invited to hike there anytime, so if you’re here, and want a good hike, I know a good place to go. Love, Penny
