Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

6/9/16 – Tony Borton’s place, Conway MA

A windy day for a great hike. We started out in Tony’s big field where the Bobolinks have once again returned from Central America and are (ground) nesting. They’re entertaining birds to watch, so we spent time with binoculars just enjoying their antics and listening to their rather amusing chatter. All three dogs were with us today; Sukee and Annie teamed up on some significant digging. We congratulated Tony on his new solar tracker system and actually got to see it make a move as it turned to be best faced to the sun. It is quite an elaborate and wonderful installation …. although perhaps his Arabian horses might not agree. Wild strawberries!!! One field was filled with them, so we stopped and ate our fill. Delicious! Like any other Thursday, we just enjoyed everything : the birch tree with bear claw marks where it had climbed, the Scarlet Tanager that we heard, then saw and watched in the tree canopy, the unique and very old stone wall that runs through the property, and the many many lady slippers that are still in bloom. Back at the house we had a pot luck lunch with great food: Tony grilled grass fed beef hamburgers from Wheel View Farm where we had our picnic last Thursday, tabouli salad, two potato salads, my asparagus quiche with asparagus from my garden, maple potato chips, strawberries (they’re in season here now), cherries, sun tea, lemonade, deviled eggs from Lynn and John’s chickens, and a Death by Chocolate birthday cake for Tony’s 83rd birthday! The day started with a rainbow and is ending with good memories of a fine day with fine friends. xo Penny
