Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

6/16/16 – Williamsburg MA

6/16/16!! Wow.
Before the hike report begins, all you Winter Campers might be interested to see that the May Pole has been taken down. No small feat!! Jason had dug such a wonderfully deep hole that it took a tractor with hydraulic capability to haul it up. I really do miss seeing it in the yard. Let’s do May Day Camp again next year.
The hike today was really good. We went on a 100 acre parcel that Gwen’s family had owned. The 1700 house is long gone, but Gwen had taken care of her Aunt there for the last 5 years of her aunt’s life. Gwen had many great memories which she shared, and we were so happy being there with her on a deeply ravined, rocky, unique piece of land.
A glacial erratic : “Little Balancing Rock” surely caught our attention as did a red oak that we measured . Going up 4’, then going around with the tape measure it was 12 feet and 12 inches in circumference. That’s big!
Back to Gwen’s present home with her organic gardens, Mountain Laurel in full bloom. her wonderful log cabin, and the celebration of Lynn’s 70th birthday out in the yard with Lynn sporting her birch bark birthday crown that hiker Lissa had made.
I’m off on the train to Montana with Ginni tomorrow!!! We’ll meet up with Phil and Ellie on Sunday and start out hiking and exploring adventures. Perfect weather, perfect friends, and a perfect trip ahead. xo Penny {CAPTION}
