Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

9/1/16 – Petticoat Hill, Williamsburg MA

Although the weather forecast had rain in it, we decided to go ahead and hike anyway as the forecasts for rain haven’t amounted to much during this continuing drought. The nice surprise was that we did get some rain, but it didn’t last, and most of the hike was under cloudy, but dry skies. This was a special hike to celebrate the safe return of Gwen’s dog Baxter after his 30 hour ordeal of having been lost last week. He was found stuck in a swamp off Gwen’s property. We started out from Gwen’s fine log home, into her peaceful woods, onto protected watershed property, over to a former beaver pond site, past the cellar hole of what must have been a fine home, up and down rocky trails and after 3 hours, back to Gwen’s house. Bag lunches beside her swimming pool. On to the celebration dessert: a blueberry pie made by Tony with the blueberries we had all picked earlier this year. It was decorated with a pastry portrait of Baxter himself. Photos of Baxter taken right after his rescue were passed around and were were all so happy that he;d been rescued by neighbors. He was great on the hike today and really seemed to be quite his old aloof and gentlemanly self. Oddly enough, no one swam in Gwen’s pool, but I am about to go for the daily swim in the Conway pond instead. Baxter sends this advice to you: “Don’t ever get lost!” xo Penny {CAPTION}
