Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/30/17 – Hull property, Williamsburg MA

Mostly on a wide trail through logged land, than a very long single file climb to the Overlook. Great hiking weather, temperature in the upper 40s, a light wind, sun, but sloppy wet places to slog through where ice and snow is continuing to melt. The distractions of the day ware so many kinds of rocks and rock formations, as well as a video crew that tagged along to do a piece on the Thursday hikers. They will be with us for two more hikes, taking videos and interviewing us. It was good. Find of the day was a large animal skull that none of us could positively identify. It seemed too big for a coyote, but the teeth told us it was a carnivore. I’ll send two more photos to you, Phil and Ellie, and hope you might have a guess at what we found. Maybe a domestic dog? Or, wildest guess, a wolf!! (We’ve ruled out a vampire or a big foot:) It was a long climb to the overview, where we shared granola bars, nuts, apples, clementines, and peanut butter sandwiches It was a long hike – we didn’t get back down until around 2:30 so had decided to snack at the Overlook rather than go to a lunch place later on. The drive home went on Poland Road in Conway. The last three photos are of some of the damage the tornado caused out there. No word if it will be cleaned up but it’s MA State land so they might do some clean up to help prevent future forest fires. For now, it’s so disheartening and just a real mess. Snow tomorrow, but there also are many subtle signs of spring. Have fun on April Fools’ Day (or is there just one Fool and it’s April Fool’s Day? or is the apostrophe rather obselete these days anyway?)) xo Penny{CAPTION}
