Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

4/27/17 – The Warner Farm (Hilltown Trust conserved land) in Cummington MA

The reunion of our dogs Sukee and Annie was pure joy. Annie’s been in Florida for the winter and Sukee has been soloing on Thursdays. It took them no time at all to get back into their trail antics of side excursions, playing “Who gets the stick?, getting full of Spring mud, wading in streams, and general display of what great pals they are. Second photo: Don’t quite looking until you’ve found the wood frog. I found a great walking stick plastered with bright green patches of moss,(but after the hike, left it in the woods where it belongs). On a dare. Joe climbed a wonderful big rock, far bigger than it looks in the photo. Spring wildflowers are all over the place! Here’s an early yellow violet, but we saw all the others (I won’t list them) including dwarf ginseng which I hadn’t seen yet this year. The crowning glory of the day was a surprising waterfall that must have been over 75 feet of stone and falling water. Some of us climbed to the top where we found amazing, huge, rock formations. Coming back down was best done backwards in a modified sort of crawl. Lunch was outside at The Creamery. I had delicious chicken vegetable soup (made on the premises) with grilled cornbread. Joe had some lasagna, a few bowls of red lentil curry soup looked good, as did Lissa’s surprising hot dog with sauerkraut. We celebrated Deb’s return and her birthday. Lissa fashioned a crown which Deb wore with great style. Tony made a birthday blueberry pie (we all still have some frozen blueberries from last year’s picking) and it was DELICIOUS! Happy May Day – coming up soon! (Winter Campers: I think I’ll put the Maypole up again so we can give it another try in June.) Love, Penny
