We had a long and beautiful hike up through my woods in Charlemont, and then continued even higher up on the abutting property with stunning views across to Berkshire East Ski Resort. There we relaxed, fooled round, ate our bag lunches, and watered the dogs. Favorite plants of the day were Pylora and Rattlesnake Plantain – as well as a plant still celebrating the 4th with a display of “fireworks”. Lynn, a professional musician, made music along the way by singing and drumming on hollow tree trunks and a bike wheel hanging on a tree. The long, old stone walls that I loved when we lived there still evoke memories, as does the view of my old house from the top of its hayfield. After the hike we stopped in at Madge’s house and had blueberry pie (made by Tony) with vanilla ice cream. It was quite a perfect day of friendship, fun, discovery, beautiful views, and, for me, many memories. I really hope that some of you will hike there with me one of these days. Love, Penny
