Today’s hike was a 3.4 mile loop on the Robert Frost Trail. A very long, steep climb led us into such a beautiful forest, with small streams for crossing, but it was ROCKS that were the feature of the day. Along the trail we found big healthy stands of Rattlesnake Plantain just past bloom, and lots of Trailing Arbutus plants that will bloom again next May, A steep downward trail finally led us down and then back up to “The Pig Pen” – enormous rock enclosures where it is said that wild hogs were captured and kept and fed until they could be driven back to town for profit. It is a magnificent place that’s really stunning. We squeezed through a narrow rock opening into the area of the “pig pen” itself and then spent lots of time climbing around and and exploring all over the vast site. We regathered and ate our bag lunches within the confines of “pig pen”. It was a perfectly wonderful day!!! Back in Conway we drove past the Magg’s property where their big old barn was destroyed in the tornado, and where now another big new barn is being raised. Life goes on! I hope ll is well with you, Love, Penny
