Our first wintry hike since early in this year. It was SO cold, or perhaps I just need to get used to the cold again. Temperature in the low 20s, some wind, It’s a good thing that we all wore spikes, as the trail was covered from start to finish with a crusty mix of snow and ice. For the first time in a very long time, all 13 of the original Thursday hikers and both dogs, Annie and Sukee, were on the hike today. There was such a lot of good spirit and fun all day long. Annie and Sukee delighted us with their crazy antics. The old quarry is a stunning sight and we took a side uphill trial so we could look at it in winter. We’ve hiked here in summer. And oh it was good, 3 hours later, to get to The Snack Shack and thaw out! Lots of outrageous food such as wonderfully greasy onion rings, lobster bisque, lobster rolls, and my fish sandwich big enough for two that I easily wolfed down all by myself! Two crownings today: both Dona and Nancy had birthdays this week. Winter is definitely here. I hope you’re finding ways to stay warm and happy. Love, Penny
