Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/1/18 – Mt. Warner, Sunderland MA

Technical difficulties with the computer has the hike report “going to press” late today. And, without the expertise of Jason, there would be no hike report, so three cheers for Jason! Temperatures in the 50s had us in a slow and happy mode. Mt Warner is no more than a big hill, so it’s also a perfect place for a leisurely stroll. Excitement about thawing out (however impermanent that might be) had us all in a very, very happy frame of mind. The vernal pools are mostly thawed out, but probably will ice up again. 4-8” of snow could fall tonight. Best Dog, Sukee, lolled in the open waters. Seeing the view across the Valley from Mt Warner is always such a delight, and we stopped there and just lolled about in the warmth of the day for a while. Ahhhhh! I found a large colony of Rattlesnake Plantain that was looking robust and, oh, so welcome a sight. Whenever we’re at Mt Warner we delight in reaching the “summit” (where once a fire tower stood) and have traditionally hung a flag touting various of our causes.Our “Stop the Pipeline” flag flew proudly up there. Today we strung up a “Never Again” flag for the sadness of Parkland FL. Wandering the open spaces of Mt Warner was totally delightful today. We really had fun! Then off to Hadley Sugar shack for pancakes and freshly made male syrup. Yum Yum Yum!!! Wish you had been there with me. Love, Penny {CAPTION}
