This was such a perfect day that I’m trying to send too many photos! We choose to keep to a “flat” walk. Donna has a broken wrist in a cast and this is the first time she was able to hike with us for a while. First we walked past a picture book New England farm with donkeys, horses, beef cattle, lamas, a Scottish Highland Yak, and lots more. I learned a new fern: the Beech Fern. Wildflowers were ALL over. We kept to the road, finally coming to the uninhabited Harris place. Tony gave us such interesting information about it and its 500 acres. The future of the land is uncertain, but it’s likely to be put into a conservation restriction. We wandered around the overgrown and decaying home and I thought of Paul and his dreams of restoring old run down properties. This one is a gem for that. Then, just a way down the road is the old Archibald MacLeish Estate, now owned by folks rumored to be in the “top 10%” financially. The house, an historical gem, seems not to be enough for them. Just look at the ravaged land and gigantic addition that’s going on. We just kept on walking so as not too get sad about the whole thing. Back to Tony’s house with our bag lunches and so much fun! Tony had us watch while he turned his four Arabian horses out to the upper pasture for the first time this year! They raced and bucked and soon just GRAZED on all that green green grass. As well, the male Bobolinks have returned to his lower field (the females should appear in a few days) and I got a photo of our gang standing and watching them . Best of all, Deb and her dog Annie are back. Deb was on an Atlantic crossing when her partner, Ron, died on board of a heart attack. There’s lots of love for one another in our group, and we it is so good to be with Deb (and Annie) again. Hoping that this huge tome doesn’t blow up in the sending, Love from Penny and Three Cheers for our Chip!
