Hypnotically gorgeous weather, on a rugged trail, with tricky stream crossings and Spring bursting out all over. First photo is a detail from a huge granite rock with a quartz intrusion. The trail is relatively unkept, and all the more wonderful for it. We had a full 3 hours of great hiking – nothing to compare to Chip’s days on the Appalachian Trail though! At last we saw a white violet blooming on plants that we have long wondered about, but had never seen in bloom before. It turned our to be a violet after all. In fact today was a day for the violets – yellow. white, lavender, purple, long stemmed, short stemmed, in wet places and in dry places, etc etc. We were surprised to see quite a few Painted Trillium and that the Clintonia were just coming into bloom too. The lady slippers are well budded and should bloom very soon. Here in Conway they are already blooming in Tony’s woods. We ate our bag lunches and celebrated Lissa’s birthday while sitting on logs by Hallockville Pond. Nancy had made Lissa’s birthday crown and Tony made her a blueberry pie which got sliced up, and gobbled up, in no time at all. Yum Yum. A very perfect day indeed. I hope you had one too.
