Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

8/23/18 – Perry Blount Conservation Area, Hatfield, MA….”The Three Dog Hike!”

Perry Blount was a pioneer in cleaning up the Connecticut River and a dedicated early conservationist. Tony actually knew him.
We had a joyful day today on wonderful trails. Really wonderful trails!!! We always speak of Chip and wonder where he might be out on the Appalachian Trail as we continue to cheer him on.
Deb brought her dog Annie and also brought a friend’s dog, Hammy, a yellow lab. Hammy was a true gentleman and a great trail dog full of fun. All day long I tried to get a photo of the three of them together but they outwitted me with their scampering about. I’ve included the best I could get when they were down in a small stream and also got them to “pose” at the end of the hike.
Crossing narrow bridges was a challenge when the dogs decided to cross at the same time – going in the other direction! There are still so many fungi and I do love them all. Even saw my all time favorite, “Dead Man’s Fingers” (but no room in the report for another photo). New today was the Black Trumpet fungus. Nancy gathered quite a few and is possibly dining on them as write. (Good Luck, Nancy!) Maidenhair Fern and immature Staghorn fungus were also wonderful. And all the beautiful rocks, and the wee toad.
Back to Lynn’s house for a “feast” that John and Vicky (a friend) had prepared. YUMMY!!!! Conrad and Elaine brought their White Mountain ice cream maker and we polished off the feast with hand cranked vanilla ice cream and a blueberry pie from our favorite pie man, Tony. That’s me taking my turn cranking. John got his birthday crown, and all the hikers send greetings and good tidings to you, Madge. Love and Joy to you, Penny {CAPTION}
