Today I celebrate Paul’s life, as 9/20 is his birthday. Paul shaped my life in ways that are immeasurable, and for which I will always be thankful.
We started out at Jack and Jeannie’s secluded home with their extensive and productive organic gardens. Much can be learned from Jack and Jeannie! Jack took us out back of his home onto 500 conserved acres of land. Once the Swift River Cross Country Ski area was there (Anyone remember it??) The old ski trails made up most of the great trails that we now hiked. Some of us could remember skiing there. It had been a really great place.
An old abandoned car caught our attention in a far out spot. I bet it was once quite something. Anyone able to identify it?
A bridge over the Swift River gave us exciting views of the river, but watch your step on the bridge itself.
We high tailed over to the Guyette Farm for our bag lunches on a oicnic table with a fine view. After three hours of steady hiking we were ready for lunch! Then we meandered over to the Raspberry Hill Community gardens and just took in the fall asters and all the signs that Autumn is almost here. Good Bye to a glorious summer.
Onward to Katahdin, Chip! XO Penny
