Thursday Hikers

12/20/18 – Robert Frost Trail/Amethyst Brook Conservation area, Amherst MA

The 47 mile Robert Frost Trail is 1 of 5 longest hiking trails in Massachusetts. It goes through state land, town conservation and watershed land, private land, and town or state roads as it passes through the eastern Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts. We’ve hiked parts of it already and did another 4 miles on it today. We are be piecing it together as we hike the whole trail – probably 30 or so more miles to go. Nothing like the 2000 plus miles that Chip did as he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail this year!, but something we’re having fun mapping out and doing together.
Today’s hike started out on really wet land with boardwalks for getting over the super saturated places. Sukee had to break through frozen puddles for water, although there was lots of water at the bottom of a fabulous and deep ravine that really wasn’t negotiable. The scenery was simply beautiful and the trail was mostly flat and well traveled. A perfectly wonderful day out hiking with friends.
We treated ourselves to lunch at the China Garden where we had plenty of steamy hot tea, rice, and various good Chinese food selections. We wished one another “Merry Christmas” with hugs and good byes until we meet again next Thursday.
Merry Christmas and a wonderfully Happy New Year to all of you. Love from Penny {CAPTION}
