7/11/19 – Cricket Hill and the Conway Pond

First two photos are from the Hawley Bog where I went the other day: Swamp Candles and Rose Pagonia orchid (which were out there in profusion!!!). Next is my garden, where the poppies are now center stage. That’s just some catching up with things now that I’m back from the most beautiful, wonderful, memorable trip to Ireland. What a beautiful country, and what wonderful people the Irish are. We’ll all be working on putting together our photos.
Now on to today’s hike: we chose a short 2 miler due to the heat. Starting up at Cricket Hill Road and walking back through the woods to the Conway Pond for a picnic and long swim. We found a 4 legged salamander – the first we’ve ever found! Tom held it gently so we could all have a close up look. The berries on the Bane Berry plant sure weren’t hard to spot, and coming down past Peter Jeswald’s house is always so peaceful. At theConway pond we had lots of fun, watermelon, cherries, red pepper hummus, sweet potato chips, bagged lunches, and once again Tony made us a blueberry pie. Our annual blueberry hike is coming up on August 8. Tony’s freezer needs filling so and he can keep on making pies for us! Hope you’ll be back by then Madge!! I hope you’re all really enjoying these long summer days. Love, Penny {CAPTION}
