8/22/19 – Dorothy Francis Rice Sanctuary, Peru MA

Dorothy Francis Rice graduated from Smith College around 1920 and died shortly afterword from tuberculosis. Her well to do family donated several hundred acres of their beautiful land in Peru MA in her name and memory. Peru is the highest altitude town (or so I’ve been told) in Massachusetts at 2,340 feet and we surely had some climbing today, The densely wooded forest, with high canopy and cooling dampness made our hike uniquely wonderful. Oh dear! As I’m writing this I see that most of the photos I had chosen are not attached. Well, believe that we had a great day, saw lots of interesting things, ate our lunches at a sweet clearing with a picnic table, and once back in Conway Tony and I headed straight to the Conway Pond for a rejuvenating swim with friends Delia, Bill, and Giselle who also happened to be at the Pond. There was a light rain falling while we were swimming, and if you’ve ever had a swim in a light rain you know how magical that can be. With lots of love and wishes for good health to all of you, Love, Penny {CAPTION}
