Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

8/29/19 – Terry Blount Conservation Sanctuary, Hatfield MA

Hi everybody, I’m having a terrible time with sending photos. Here they are, but my best guess is that they won’t open. I’ll get it fixed (with Paul’s help).
Starting with the weekly trip to the Hawley Bog, we at last (after trying for three years!) got to see the Marsh St. Johns Wort buds starting to open. (There is a photo below for you with any luck.) We’ll return soon to see if they’re fully open. The bog remains a place of great magic and mystery for us. We go once a week and take notes, photos, and make sketches.
Today’s hike was on the Terry Blount Trail/Trails. Terry Blount was an activist who spearheaded the Connecticut River cleanup in Massachusetts. Tony knew him in the 60’s and has such high regard for him. Terry died of cancer some years ago. The trails in his memory are quiet, peaceful, well cared for, and overall wonderful. I found a small well camouflaged toad and got a fine photo of it. We also all spent time watching a spider construct its web!!! Talk about a meditative experience. I will never forget it! Ånd such an industrious and talented little creature is the spider. For all that close up nature watching, we also hiked for 2 1/2 hours.
The dogs are fine, and so are the Thursday Hikers. And so I hope, with all my heart, are all of you. Love, Penny
