Almost balmy at 40 degrees, and with the sun out it was a great day to saunter through this lovely place. Invasive multiflora roses held tiny beads of half frozen ice; Winter Berry bushes were heavily laden; Hepatica looked amazingly hearty and green – but will have to wait until May to thrill us with its flowers; sweet and prolific Partridge Berries; lichens (my favorites) and a skunk cabbage popping up but sure to be stopped in its tracks once winter takes over. There was a fine little pond that soon will be wonderful for ice skating. This easy 2 1/2 mile outing could not have been more delightful except for our wishing that hikers Lynn, Deb, Madge, and Tony were with us.
Lunch at Cushmans Coop where I was hungry enough to devour the “Four Friends” grilled cheddar, bacon, avocado, and apple slice sandwich on sour dough bread. Some even had dessert: a fine looking ginger bread with a mound of whipped cream on top.
With many years of memories attached to it, have another Happy Thanksgiving. (Maybe make some ginger bread?) With love from Penny
