A 2.8 mile hike on one of Conway’s best dirt roads where, with using spikes, the footing was icy but fine. Our “Christmas” gathering had been postponed but we got to celebrate it together today with a great pot luck at Tony’s house. I baked two batches of cornbread in my kitchen wood stove. Tony made his Tortelline soup, others brought cheese, crackers, guacamole, salsa, crudities, cold shrimp with cocktail sauce, popcorn, cider, green salad, breads and butters, sweet potato sunflower seed cranberry bake, a five star blueberry cheesecake from baker Lissa, and a whopping big chocolate eclair to share from chocolate lover Tom. Some of you will remember Pine Hill Road because it’s where we once took a wildflower walk during “Winter” Camp. Passing historic Archibald McLeish’s historic home we were so saddened to see the construction continues with outbuildings, and huge add ons. I’ve included a photo of the facade of the McLeish house. With restraint, hopefully it might just be quietly restored. But this is a massive project and one can only hope for the house to survive it. A dumpster with a familiar name (!) was on site along with 15 workmen’s trucks. The potluck, the thoughtful little gifts, the dogs (sleeping by the fire), a fox spotted running through the horse pasture, and the pale full moon rising wrapped up the perfect day we’d had. Hopefully everyone is safely home, and with beautiful memories, from Jimmy and Katie’s wedding. With love for all of you, Penny
