A fresh snowfall, temperature 36, windy!! 46mph winds gusts were predicted and it felt as if they might have been that strong when we got to the view at the top.We had to plant our feet and hang on to keep from being blown over. It is always lovely to find colorful things this time of year. A colony of red partridge berry growing atop a big rock sure was pretty. A deep and wet leaf cover with fresh snow on top kept clumping up on our spikes. It was just sort of fun ….. it’s hard to keep any Thursday hike from just being a lot of fun. So far we have had 335 Thursday hikes together! Nancy is now wearing braids, and very becomingly! 2 1/2 hours of hiking on rocky ascending and descending trails had Sukee happy to get in the back of the car. (Deb and Annie are in Florida for a week. We’ve heard that Deb is wearing flip flops every day… no clumped up spikes for her this week!!) We drove to nearby Bread Euphoria for lunch. There was a great black bean and corn soup, wonderful breads, and sandwiches. I had the “Caprese”: fresh mozzarella, basil leaves, pesto, and tomato on grilled whole wheat baguette with the best coleslaw in Western Massachusetts on the side. Lots of water too, and no shortage of spirited conversation all around our table for 10. January is flying by and there could be some real winter weather this weekend. Stay warm and happy, Love, Penny
