1. We’re always happy to have good friend Nancy, botanist, with us at the Hawley Bog on Mondays. Orchids are still in bloom and we four continue to learn a lot about the bog plants.
2. The Thursday hike was wonderful – the woods at Breckenridge are gorgeous. The 3 mile hike took us through varied terrain, including climbing onto several glacial eskers. We thought we had found a Hen of the Woods mushroom, but it turned out to be a Bondarzawia Berkeleyi!! (Thanks, Nancy:) Donna’s grandson, 4 year old Lincoln, hikes with us every week now and he is a delight! He quietly made his way up to where Lynn was softly playing her flute as she communed with some wood spirits. We had bag lunches and good exploring at Devil’s Den, a rocky spot with rushing water, pools, and small waterfalls. Lincoln enjoyed a dip in the cold waters of the pool while hiker dog Annie took a well earned nap. Here comes August! Time zips along. Love, Penny
