Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

7/28/22 & 7/30/22 – The Hawley Bog and Breckenridge Conservation Area, Williamsburg MA

1. We’re always happy to have good friend Nancy, botanist, with us at the Hawley Bog on Mondays. Orchids are still in bloom and we four continue to learn a lot about the bog plants.
2. The Thursday hike was wonderful – the woods at Breckenridge are gorgeous. The 3 mile hike took us through varied terrain, including climbing onto several glacial eskers. We thought we had found a Hen of the Woods mushroom, but it turned out to be a Bondarzawia Berkeleyi!! (Thanks, Nancy:) Donna’s grandson, 4 year old Lincoln, hikes with us every week now and he is a delight! He quietly made his way up to where Lynn was softly playing her flute as she communed with some wood spirits. We had bag lunches and good exploring at Devil’s Den, a rocky spot with rushing water, pools, and small waterfalls. Lincoln enjoyed a dip in the cold waters of the pool while hiker dog Annie took a well earned nap. Here comes August! Time zips along. Love, Penny {CAPTION}
