Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

9/25/20 – White Rock Trail, Hatfield MA

Great weather for this fine 2 hour hike. A long steep climb to a long great view where we had our bag lunches. This was a challenging hike for Tony and we all celebrated his success. As there were no streams along the way, we shared our bottled water with the dogs and good dog Annie also helped herself to half of Madge’s sandwich. Good dog Sukee had a nap – soon she’ll be 11 years old, but still a great and stalwart companion on all of our hikes.
On the way back down, we took a different trail and discovered a fine old fireplace where there was once a dwelling. A bit farther on we found a curious relic made of cement encrusted with flat stones. Had it once been a fireplace? An ancient Druid altar? A still for bootleg whiskey? ? ? ? Lots of ideas, but no answer. We hope to do some research on the area.
I’ve added two photos from the long hiking discovery day I had on Wednesday. It was wonderful to come upon Blue Fringed Gentian and Bur Marigold at a beaver pond.
With a sad ggod bye to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Love, Penny
