Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

1/21/21 – “The Dog Park”, Northampton MA

Great hike, great hiking weather: 29 degrees, no wind, snowing, beautiful. I’ve never been here before and will surely go again….take some of you with me. It’s INERESTiNG as well as beautiful. Topography has scattered remains of glacial eskers. Varied hardwood forest and many trails, some along the along the wide and peaceful Mill river. Hatless Deb led the hike and had lots to tell about the area. A meditation group has dwelling on the opposite side of the river from where we hiked. They had hung “prayer flags” along the river and the color was both and peaceful and hopeful in the rather colorless landscape.
But what’s this??? A HUGE development, “Village Hills” is being built abutting the trail land! Probably no wonder as the land is close to Smith College and downtown Northampton. I’ve included a photo of a cornfield (it’s part of Smith Vocational High School’s Agricultural Program) where you can see part of the scope of the Village Hills development in the distance.
We settled down in our folding chairs for lunch (Brrr), celebratory conversation!, and Elaine’s “birthday party”. Best, Penny Gotta run to Tony’s before it gets dark to feed my favorite horses:) {CAPTION}
