Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/25/21 – One of the Ashfield Trails in Ashfield and Conway MA

Beautiful hiking today in the “hold your breath” season that’s happening between Winter and Spring. Donna and I had scouted the hike on Tuesday and found parts that were icily impassable, so rerouted today’s hike. Still lots of mud and icy patches, but perfect weather, and so much to celebrate* today. The newly appointed “Wire Cutter Team” cleared a dangerous part of the trail by cutting away a great piece of barbed wired sheep fence that was imbedded in the ground and was an accident waiting to happen. A real tripper! The cheerleading squad added to the fun of it all. I found a bit of orange “Witches’ Butter” and hope that Claudia and Paulie especially like it And then there were all those amazing lichens! And: three “not so little” foraging pigs on the drive back to Tom and Donna’s for a lazy lunch on their deck. *As for celebrating: Tony drove over and joined us for lunch!! He’s not hiking yet, but his treatments are really going well. The gang honored Gwen and myself with birthday candles, cakes, cards, and a robust round of singing “Happy Birthday”. Off to our cars and the peaceful drive through the quiet beauty of the Ashfield hills back to Donna and Tom’s place. Got your vaccinations? Hope so! Love, Penny {CAPTION}
