With two photos from yesterday’s hike up Tony’s waterfall trail to the beaver pond. We found Fringed Gentian in bloom and also stopped and picked some of Tony’s wonderful raspberries.
Today’s hike in Hawley was rainy yet very wonderful. Trails were soggy, but also wonderful. We searched for pieces of Hawley Crowsfoot schist, “one of this continent’s rare, exotic stones. A 600 million year very old stone, it flowed out of ancient volcanos, cooled slightly and grew wonderful crystal inclusions…..” I’m happy to say that Paulie and Claudia already know about, and can recognize Hawley Crowsfoot!!! It was really fun searching for Crowsfoot specimens and we found quite a few. We also saw many mushrooms, including (perhaps!) the edible white ion’s Mane mushroom. After the hike we drove down Rt 2 to Posada, a Salvadoran restaurant where we ate delicious food outside on their picnic tables. The days surely are growing shorter! Enjoy them all. Love, Penny
