Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

12/16/21 – “Sweet Alice Conservation Area”, Amherst MA

And, really, what a “Sweet” day it was. A relatively flat and easy 2 mile hike in order to spare Nancy’s torn leg muscle and with Springlike (scary but enjoyable) weather. In fact so Springlike that a big fat toad came out to welcome us to its home. A new hiker, Chance The Dog, joined us for the first time. He belongs to hiker Deb’s friend Harley. Chance was one day from euthanasia in Austin Texas and is the happy result of a rescue endeavor between Massachusetts and Texas stray dog agencies. Three cheers for all of that and a huge welcome to Chance who is an all out wonderful year old dog, a natural trail dog, a real gentleman!! Trails that might have been iced over by now had us wading through and around them. It was just plain old fun with lots of laughing and slopping about in all that water. We stopped by a beautiful pond with views of the Holyoke Range behind it and also to watch some Merganser Ducks enjoying the open waters of the pond. Lunch, both bagged as well as bought at Atkins Farm. We ate outside on picnic tables and celebrated bpth Nancy and Donna’s birthdays with a marvelous lemon cake and lots of good cheer. Love, and fun, to all of you, Penny
