After two cold rainy days, the sun burst out today so we could celebrate hiking at Bear Swamp. We were about a week too early for the best of the Spring Ephemeral show, so we’ll have the joy or returning very soon again. This natural mountain pool always makes me think of you, Ellie, and how we two would love to get into it. Black eyed rock lichen always charms me. The trails at Bear Swamp are lovely and varied. We all kept Tony in our hearts today as he was , as Lissa, said, “Our North Star” and oh how he loved the rocky trails at Bear Swamp where we’d usually spot Painted trillium (but too early for it today). We did see Large Flowered Bellwort, Virginia Spring Beauty, lots of Ramps! (Don’t tel the New York City restaurants, Paul), Red Trillium, Trout Lily and so much more like that small snake lying in wait for its lunch at a pool with both salamander and frog eggs, lots of egg masses, and even a few tadpoles. (Lunch for our friend the snake?) We had our bag lunches with a wonderful view of some of the mountains in Vermont. There’s so so so much to be thankful for, Penny
