Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

8/25/22 – Plainfield, Hawley, Conway, and Ashfield MA

A 3.7 mile hike today, once again in the Dubuque State Forest of Hawley and Plainfield. We’re scouting the many wonderful trails there. Today we were mostly on the “Periwinkle” trail and it was heavenly. My camera got little use, rather my eyes just took everything in. But here’s a spider web to wonder at!
So, back to Conway and the great pile of wood chips. It’s ENORMOUS and it’s plea for “no more wood chips!” is amusing. Nancy and I and possibly others will (with permission)) help ourselves to many buckets full of it of it tomorrow.
Conway Pond has had failed water tests recently. The water in the streams that run into and out of the pond are low and the water isn’t circulating in and out of the pond as it usually does. So, needing a swim, I headed up to Ashfield Lake (only an 11 minute drive), and had a wonderful swim way out into its clean cool waters.
Being in Hawley, we did find another great example of 600 million year old Hawley Crowsfoot schist. That’s always exciting for all of us! I hope you’re finding lots of good things too. Penny {CAPTION}
