Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

1/19/23 – DAR State Forest, Goshen MA

The parking lot at DAR was snow and ice free so I felt a bit foolish wearing spikes but, because of my hip, I didn’t want to take a chance if there might be ice on any of the woodland trails. And oh my there sure was ice!!! We shared hiking poles and Conrad helped Lissa put on the spikes she had in her knapsack and we just went on and had a great day full of fun together. It was three miles of being able to walk on the sides of trails where there were some frozen leaves. but mostly ice. Old icy footprints and some crunchy snow helped with footing. There were only 5 of us today but we had the good company of two dogs,Chance and Annie. The Black Eyed Lichens were thriving on lots of rocks. Just as we left to head for Country Pie Pizza in Ashfield (remember it Phil ad Ellie?)a few snowflakes fell. It was 33 degrees. By the time I got home we had rain and freezing rain with snow in it and then just snow. I hear this might be the weather for tomorrow and into Saturday. Wish it could just be snow. With warm thoughts of each one of you, Penny {CAPTION}
