We were given a perfect hiking day today: 51 degrees with a low November sun in the sky. I think this was one of our best days out together with spirits wonderfully high, dogs full of energy, a few small streams to cross, 2.8 miles with lots of up and downs, at the “top” a long view over Apple Valley toward Mt. Monadnock, the rather hilarious realization that we were “off trail” (i.e.lost!) for a short time and then off to Ashfield Country Pie* for pizza slices followed by ice cream cones ($1 each) from the hardware store, all eaten out on the porch of Country Pie.
On the map below: We took Beaver Brook Lookout Trail to North South Trail to Orchard View back down North South Trail to Lookout trail (and being lost), Beaver Brook Trail and back to our cars wishing the hike were just starting and that Tony was still with us. Actually, we think he was!
*Phil and Ellie: you might remember once having pizza on Country Pie porch with Tony and me.
No hike next week as we all enjoy family Thanksgiving. And here is so much to be thankful for!! Love from Penny
