I’ve been at Cave Hill with Tony and group led by a UMass Geology Professor. It’s astounding how I was able to forget the incredible information that was taught on that day! Geology ain’t for sissies, that’s for sure. In a nutshell, 180 million years ago, the super continent Pangea broke apart. Today I was standing on parts of the earth that were once Africa, North America and South America. The Pelham Dome (where the hiking trails are) goes steeply up and has vestiges of 7 or more rock types. And we hiked a mere 2.5 miles of it all. And that’s the end of this geology lesson!
Except for ourselves, no one was up there today except for a young man with a young friendly dog! As it’s a “carved up” sort of place there were standing pools of water in very low places and ice beginning to form in low places where we once again marveled at how ice “grows”. There were places on the steep trails that invited going down them by sliding or just with great carefulness (an fun of course). ) After this wonderful hike we headed to Cushmans Cafe for a great variety of sabdwiches I had goat cheese, spinach and avocado on crusty bread. After lunch we celebrated Nancy’s birthdy with brownies that Elaine had made.
I hope we can all get together one of these fine days, Lovd from Penny
