Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

9/18/25 – Buckland MA

What a wonderful hike we had today. My Apple Watch reports that I climbed 21 flights of stairs – but really it wasn’t stairs at all, just steep trails leading eventually to the 1797 birthplace of Mary Lyon, founder of what now is Mount Holyoke College. We’ve hiked here before, but in winter and on snowshoes (and we were 10 years younger than we are now:). We delighted in seeing many impressive spider webs (how do they do it???) before stopping at the top of one steep climb for a rest and a photo (egad!! I should have left my hat on!). Lunch and exploration of the Mary Lyon birthplace with much awe for what winter must have been like way up in that mountain in 1797. She lived there until the age of 8 when the family moved to where there was a school!!!! Then briefly on up to a Buddhist Center where we saw and talked about how little we knew about the Stupa and Mandala. Back home I headed straight to the hammock, with a quick look (and happy memories) at Claudia’s and Paul’s “outdoor room”. Sure enough the days are getting shorter, but they couldn’t be any more beautiful. Hoping all’s well, Penny
